About Auditions
Gaslight Auditions are open to everyone!
Come to Gaslight and audition for a show - or just come to watch what goes on. It's also a great time to sign up for backstage work. Call the box office for more information 580-234-2307.
What happens at auditions?
Gaslight Theatre auditions are open auditions. While some may require you to schedule an appointment in advanced auditions are open to everyone!
You'll be asked to complete a general information sheet on yourself - contact information, rehearsal conflicts, experience if any, and willingness to serve on a backstage crew.
Non-musical auditions mainly consist of reading from the script. A cold read audition is typical and the specific readings are determined by the director of the show. Generally scripts can be checked out from the office prior to auditions so you can familiarize yourself with the play and its characters. Some directors may ask you to perform a short monologue.
Musical auditions also have readings from the script. You will need to bring a prepared song. An accompanist will be available. Please bring your own portable speaker if using a recording. Depending upon the director and the specific musical, auditions may also consist of dance or rhythm exercise. Directors may ask you to vocalize or sing some brief selections from the show to gauge vocal range and flexibility.
